As of date of writing this review, Wisdom is now 66 years old and has just recently hatched out another chick! INCREDIBLE! Highly recommend this book for youngsters. Definite keeper in this house!

Although just about readable on my Paperwhite Kindle it is MUCH better read on the CLOUD on a bigger screen and in color or even better still as the REAL book! I purchased this book at the full prevailing price. I was not required to write a review but chose to do so. Thanks, Liz

A definite must for wildlife lovers. The story of Wisdom, the Albatross, will warm you right down to the tips of your wings. Richly illustrated and beatutifully written, this is a great addition to every child (and adult) library.
I bought this book after reading an article about the 70th anniversary of the Battle of Midway (June 2012), which eventually led me to some articles about Wisdom the Laysan Albatross. I also recall reading about Wisdom at the time of the 2011 Tsunami. Anyway, after searching for some additional material on the subject I ran across the subject book by Darcy Pattison and Kitty Harvill and purchased it via , thinking it would be a great story for my new grandson. It is full of great illustrations and a nice story to share with children. Having read it myself though, I intend to pick up another copy to keep around the house! Good work!
I loved the idea of the story but I would have liked to have more information. This was basically a kids story so I guess it was geared toward kids.
Very well told story of survival. Wonderful illustrations! I purchased this book for my six year old who is a bird lover. We both loved the story and artwork!
This true story for children about an Albatross named Gooney gives us a glimpse into the life of what is called The Oldest Bird in the World. Scientists found Gooney and put a band on her leg in 1956, but when they found her again in 2002 they realized she was then 51 years old. It was then they named her Wisdom.

Wisdom lived most of her life at Midway Atoll in the Pacific Ocean. She defied the odds and lived to be...well you'll have to read Darcy Pattison's book to find out.
I didn't think much of this e-book when I picked it up. I think it was a freebie at the time. Having observed Laysan albatross off California and in the Aleutians, I do admit a soft spot for this beautiful bird as well. I knew about Wisdom being the oldest known bird, but today I read the story and was thrilled. I'm a big wuss, so I admit it made me cry. Tsunamis, longliners, drifting plastic residue....all are risks to Laysan albatross that are clearly illustrated in the story line. And 'somehow Wisdom survived'. I'd recommend this story to any parent looking for an environmentally aware story about animals. I would have LOVED this story as a pre-reader!
